Auditions, rehearsals, tickets, etc...
We get a lot of mail through our "contact us" link at the top of this page. We've tried to answer some of the more frequently asked questions below. If you have additional questions, feel free to send them along and we'll either answer you personally, or add the question and answer to the list, or both!
Q: When are Auditions?
A: When we have auditions coming up, we list the dates on this site and in local publications such as the StarNews Thursday editions or Encore. Both are published on a weekly basis, and may be found in multiple locations around Wilmington.
Auditions are typically held around 6 weeks prior to opening, so 7-8 weeks prior is a good time to start looking around for definite information.
Q: How can I get tickets/how much do they cost?
A: Tickets can be purchased in advance through the Newcastle Antiques Center, 606 Castle St, or by phone at 910-341-7228. Operating hours are Mon.-Sat. 10am-6pm, and Sun. 1-5pm. Tickets may also be purchased at the door of the Playhouse beginning 90 minutes prior to showtime. If you wait to purchase at the door, cash or check is preferable, as credit cards take a while to process.
Q: What are rehearsal schedules like?
A: Rehearsal schedule varies from show to show, and depends on the schedules of those who are cast (when they are available, etc), but are generally weeknights from 7-10 pm and once or twice over the weekend. The director will usually have more specific information at auditions.
Q: What is required at auditions? Do I need to have a monologue prepared?
A: Again, it varies from show to show. The majority of the time, actors are asked to read from script "sides" and may have the opportunity to read more than once. Monologues are rarely required, but it's always a good idea to have one prepared, just in case.
We do ask that if possible, you provide a headshot or recent snapshot of yourself to help us as we're going through the casting options after auditions - it helps us not only remember who you are, but also to envision possible pairings of characters. It is not necessary to send a headshot in advance, just bring it with you when you come to audition.
Q: Can I send you my headshot/resume in advance?
A: Yes, but again, it's not necessary. Directors want to meet you in person and see your audition. We rarely, if ever, cast based on "look" alone. So your best bet is to come to the audition and bring your headshot and resume with you. It's also a good idea to have your schedule for the next two months with you, because you'll be asked about any conflicts you may have with rehearsal or production dates.
If you feel you simply must send your headshot and/or resume, you can send it to contact@bigdawgproductions.org.
